ALLAH-icon How do I become a Muslim?

14 number 6When becoming a Muslim, the appropriate term used is ‘reverting’ or becoming a ‘revert Muslim’ because every individual is born believing in One God.

Yet, as we grow into adulthood, through our family, friends and environment, some us are taught a different faith or way of thinking. Hence, by embracing Islam, one is reverting back to his or her original belief.

To revert to Islam is very easy. In your heart, just ask yourself if you believe in the six beliefs of a Muslim:

Do I believe in:

  1. ONE GOD– He is Unique, Alone and the Creator and Sustainer of everything in the universe.
  2. THE CREATION OF THE ANGELS – they are created just like us and the animals and plants. However, like some of God’s creation such as atoms, we cannot see them with our eyes.
  3. ALL THE BOOKS OF GOD – these were scrolls and books revealed to the Prophets (PBUT) and include the Torah, Gospel and the Quran.
  4. ALL THE PROPHETS (PBUT) OF GOD – these were all sent by God and include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Soloman, Jesus and Muhammad.
  5. THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT – this is the day after we die and return to our Creator, where we will answer for all our actions and deeds, good and bad.
  6. FATE in some instances we have no control over our lives such as to whom we are born to and where. In some instances, we do have control such as when standing up or moving our arms. But  in Islam we believe that God knows everything; the past, present and future, and He in His infinite wisdom has written it all as fate.

All you need to do is simply bear witness by reciting the text below in both English (the translation) and Arabic:

English:
I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah (God alone) and that Muhammad (PBUH) is His servant and Messenger (prophet)

Arabic:
Ashadoo allah ilaha illallaahoo, wa ashadoo anna Muhammadan abdoo hoo wa rassoolloo

Congratulations! May Allah (God) guide of you and all us, and make our paths towards the next life easy!

ALLAH-icon A couple of commonly asked questions:

1. What happens if I die before accepting Islam?

4. straight pathDeath can come to us at any time.

It is a reality of life. Yesterday we were born, today we are alive and tomorrow we will enter the grave.

This is why God strongly advises those who believe and those who are considering reverting to Islam and becoming a Muslim that:

“O you who believe, fear Allah (God) as He should be feared, and do not die except in a state of Islam (i.e. believing in and submitting to God).” (Quran 3:102)

In other words, God encourages us to ensure that we hastily accept Him as our Creator and avoid delaying.

Furthermore, in life, whether we believe or not, we will face both ease and hardships.

Hence, it is important that we not only believe in our Creator, but that we also keep steadfast in our belief in Him throughout our life regardless of whatever good or bad happens.

2. Will God accept any other religion except Islam?

Allah - none has the right to be worshipped except Him alone, the Creator of all things Quran 6-102Islam is the religion of God. It was there from the very beginning and will always be there.

Thus, Islam did not begin with the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) over 1400 years ago but started with first prophet Adam, and then continued with all the following prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Soloman, Jesus and John (PBUT).

They all worshipped the same God and called others towards Him too.

A Muslim is someone who recognises this same God as his or her Maker.

Islam is the religion of our Maker and Creator, and this is why God states in the Quran that:

“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him and he will be one of the losers in the Hereafter.” (Quran, 3:85)

We sincerely apologise if we come across as a little blunt, but Islam is the religion of God, whereas every other religion is manmade – that is why God will not accept any other religion except Islam once a person knows what Islam is.
